Are you actively in pursuit of a career in the U.S. intelligence, defense, and national security community? Apply today for an NMIF Merit Scholarship through our new electronic application form below! 

 

Be sure to read the NMIF Scholarships Process Overview document below prior to starting the application. This document provides an overview of the materials you will need on hand for the application, eligibility requirements, and evaluation criteria. Important note: You will not be able to save form entries and come back later; this application form must be completed and submitted in one sitting.

Application Summary

The 2025 NMIF Scholarship cycle is open until 11:59 PM on June 14th, 2025. This application must be completed in one sitting, this form cannot be saved and returned to later. Make sure you review the NMIF Scholarships Process Overview PDF prior to starting.


Eligibility Requirements Summary:

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Undergraduate Sophomore-Senior, Graduate student, or PhD Candidate

  • Full-time student

  • Consent to NMIF's ability to post your name, photo, and summary


Evaluation Criteria Summary:

  • Academic excellence and rigor

  • Relevant course of study/major

  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuing career in intelligence, national security, defense, or related field

  • Clear and concise writing

  • Financial need

Section 1: Applicant Information & Eligibility

Note: This is the unique ID or account number your university gave you. It can usually be found on your student ID and/or within your profile on your university's online portal. We are NOT asking for your Social Security Number (SSN) OR bank account numbers. We ask for your student ID/account number to include on the scholarship check sent to your university, should you receive an award.

Note: Please consult your university registrar and/or financial office to determine the office address that NMIF should send the scholarship check to, should you receive the award.

Note: 1) If you are graduating Spring 2025, please indicate number of credits for Spring 2025 semester instead of Fall 2025. 2) If your university considers full time less than 12 credits, please specify that in the comment box and email/upload a justification explaining this (e.g., a registrar letter, screenshot of webpage specifying, etc.) in the file uploads section.

Note: NMIF Merit Scholarships are intended for those pursuing work in the U.S. military, defense industry, and intelligence communities, requiring U.S. citizenship.

Section 2: Academic Merit, Coursework, & Financial Need

Note: Provide a 2-3 sentence summary of your background that, should you receive an award, NMIF will use in scholarship announcements on the NMIF website and social media pages and Night of Heroes Award Gala presentation. Example below:


“Susie Smith is a graduate student at ___ University pursuing an M.A. in _____ with specialization in ____. She previously graduated from ___ University with a B.A. in ___, and minor in ___. Susie worked as an intern with the ____.”

Note: We are looking for coursework related to subject matter or skills relevant to a career in Intelligence, Defense, Military, National Security, cyber, etc.

How have you paid for your degree to date?
How will you pay for the rest of your degree upon completion?
How much educational debt do you have to date?
How much educational debt will you have upon completion of your degree?

Note: Answer this in absence of an NMIF scholarship, and in absence of others you have applied to but have not yet been awarded.

Out of respect for sponsors and families, I hereby consent to NMIF’s showcasing of my name, photo, and summary provided upon receipt of the scholarship. I understand that this information will be shared on the NMIF website, social media pages, 2025 Night of Heroes Awards Gala materials/ceremony presentation, and future scholarship fundraising material.
